Today’s post is about inspiration. Most people I run into are just waiting for someone else to inspire them. That’s ok but what if no one comes along and you lose sight of your dreams before the next inspiration finds you by accident?
That spells a new entrepreneurial casualty. That is when we hear things like, ‘it doesn’t work.’ ‘It doesn’t work for me.’ ‘I don’t know anyone.’ ‘I don’t know the right people.’ I don’t know how to do it.’
There are a million other hopeless lines that people use to push responsibility from themselves on to someone else.
To survive as a home or small business entrepreneur you absolutely MUST take responsibility for your own thinking.
Yes it helps to plug in with a successful team.
Yes it is essential to have a great business model to leverage.
Yes training is important.
Yes your product must be unique and first class.
Yes to all of those things but you know what?
You can have all of those things and still not get anywhere in your business because ultimately it all depends on what you do. Otherwise your success just depends on how ‘lucky’ you are and that isn’t a great place to be.
I’ve survived and am succeeding in the home business industry because I have learned to motivate myself. I love going to big events to ‘get motivated,’ but if I didn’t know how to internally motivate myself each and every day I’d be long gone.
Maybe I’d have gone back to a JOB. Maybe I’d be settling for doing some contract work where I have some independence but know how much I’ll get paid each month.
Maybe I’d be saying things like, ‘well it’s ok. I get to do what I want really. I come and go as I please and the boss isn’t around much.’ Yuck. I hope that turns you off as much as it does me, or you may just find yourself continuing to settle for second best.
So if you want to grow and thrive as an entrepreneur you need to invest in your own ‘stuff.’ That means buying books, e-books, courses, audios and whatever else will stimulate your mind and inspire you.
It also means scheduling the time in your calendar to act on them!
I’m not talking about training courses here although they are important too.
I’m talking specifically about the books, ebooks and audios that you can pick up and read every day to RE-MIND you why you can reach all your dreams by pushing your way through the obstacles that every day may bring.
That is what it is like when you are learning new skills and not waiting for someone else just to teach them to you.
You become an independent thinker and actor. You read the books that seem to just appear in your world.
You watch the videos and you listen to the people who are successfully doing what you want to do.
There is no other way to be successful. Being an entrepreneur; whether you’re in Network Marketing, Information Marketing, Direct Sales, Coaching … whatever it may be for you, requires that you stay inspired. Every day.
So what are you doing to stay inspired and to actively inspire yourself?
If I looked at your bedside table would I find some amazing mind food? We’ve never had it so easy. We have access to the greatest thinkers and marketers in our world today just with the push of a button.
So will you push it?
Or wait for someone to push it for you?

Great post Rachel. It’s so much easier to make excuses than it is to take responsibility for what you need to do. Followed your blog:)

I agree Rachel, being a part of a home-based business takes discipline and perseverance. You can have the greatest intentions, but without action (such as self learning and application as you mentioned), those intentions can quickly turn into pipe dreams.

Hi Rachel, I love this post! You couldn’t say it better – the key to success in this business (or any home business) is staying motivated and inspired. You are right that so many people just wait around and hope to be motivated by some external force, when they have all they need for success in hand – except that internal push that is missing.
