Ok let’s imagine you’re new to this. You just got started with your networking biz and you want to launch fast.

If you’re not new to this then you’ll still benefit because we all need to ‘re-launch’ our business and create up to date action plans to stay motivated.

Things can get very stale when we don’t inject some new goals and activities into our schedule.

So here goes with 10 simple ways to market your MLM business using both the internet and offline activities:

1) Make a list of everybody you know. This is simple and you can do it. It is SILLY to ignore the people you know already. They know people too! This is networking.

2) Contact everyone on the list and let them know you started a new business. (Follow your team training before you do this) For the ones you feel nervous about just notify them you started a new business and ask if it would be ok to add them to your mailing list so you can be in touch with them occasionally.

Even your old Aunt Mary can pass on information for you. Remember to have good posture and no begging people to join please!

Some people will be curious and ask for info. Don’t blab and ’sell’ them. Use the tools you have at your disposal to do the presenting for the business and schedule a follow up within 24-48 hours.

These people know people too and your list of contacts is your resources list. Dani Johnson teaches this brilliantly.

3) Create a mailing list for the people who are reviewing the business and/or product. Follow up auto responders are great for this or just add them to an email or physical mailing list if that’s what you know how to do. Start where you are and with what you know. Most of this is just common sense. (This does not replace following up on the phone)

4) Create a mailing list for the others who have no immediate interest but are happy to be on your list. Just add them to a simple email list so you can send them updates and offers every now and then. You can ask them to pass them on to their contacts too. You need to be starting your own organised list of contacts YESTERDAY no matter what business you’re in.

5) Research local networking events. (Google it!) There are usually many low cost networking events. For the price of a visit to the cinema you can connect with quality business people in your local area. Remember this is not about PITCHING them. It’s about connecting with them and exchanging referrals. Some may join you anyway because the timing is right. For those you have synergy with, join each other’s lists and help each other out.

6) Get some business cards. Vistaprint has some great deals for low cost business cards. I recommend everyone have a website which captures details of prospects in exchange for giving them access to something valuable such as a video, a report or a newsletter. If you don’t have that yet don’t use it as an excuse not to take action. Buy your own domain name (sarahjones.com) through Go Daddy and point it to your Facebook profile if you have nothing else for now.

Work with what you do have. You will use these business cards to exchange with people at the networking events.

7) Attend free or low cost seminars on things that are of interest to you. For example attending a property seminar or wealth creation workshop will not only teach you valuable things but will also align you with like-minded people who you can exchange business cards with and add to your mailing list (with their permission) Entrepreneurial type seminars work best but anything educational and of interest to you can connect you with good people to add to your list.

Focus on living an interesting life and getting into conversations with new people. Ask lots of questions and if appropriate add these new people to your mailing list and/or look them up with social media (Facebook etc.) so you can learn more about them and see if they are a prospect.

9) Always lead with value. Think about the person and what you can do for them. Don’t spew your MLM opportunity all over them. Find out if they are someone you’d like to work with and if so move them through the process of reviewing your business. Big gulp. Sometimes you need to overcome your fear of rejection and ask them if they know anyone (3rd party is cool) who might be interested in taking a look …

10) Keep prospecting every day. I recommend you use online social media to meet new people and offline LIFE and networking too. If you sit at home waiting for leads your business can be very slow. Be proactive and do both, especially when you are launching.

There are tons more things you can do but this is a great start for moving yourself off the starting blocks. Don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed by all the sophisticated marketing stuff you see online. Focus on what you have to offer and on staying in touch with people through your new mailing list.

This way when people’s situation changes they can reconnect with you easily. There is no ‘out of sight, out of mind’ when you have everyone you know on your mailing list.

So Are You Building a Real List? Oh Really! I may shock you now.

These are just SOME of the business cards I collected a couple of years back when I did a ton of local networking. Yesterday I dug them out and thought DUH Rachel. You’re building a huge list online but what about all these guys?

Now this doesn’t mean I didn’t do the trusty MLM pitch on them way back when cause the chances are I did BUT why are these peeps not in my email list receiving the odd update from me about what I have to offer them in terms of products and services (inc. Network Marketing)

What if their situation has changed? As I’m unable to be present (and don’t really want to be!) at every local networking event how on earth would they stay in touch with me?

This is a classic example of how most networkers are shown to build their candidate list and prospect everyone on it and follow up until they jump off the fence either way.

What then? Some of you may be groaning now as you see where I’m going with this.

Imagine if I (after 7 years of prospecting) had kept every contact through the trillions of leads I bought back in the day and all the networking I’ve done. And what If I’d kept all the emails of my team members who’ve slipped away?

Wow can you imagine how many people I’d be able to stay in touch with just by sending them the odd email with some cool stuff I’m learning along the way?

I’m willing to bet there are 6 figure networkers amongst you who don’t have a list that you can easily communicate with, of all your contacts from the years you’ve been building the business.

You may say ‘well I can find them in my outlook or they’re in my phone.’ What about when you change your phone or your computer dies and you shift to a new one and lose all those email addresses and numbers?

I know it happens cause it has happened to me. SO. What can YOU do today even if you have no BLOG and no capture page and are a complete tecnno twit?

What is your strategy for offering them value to keep them connected with you, rather than phoning them up every 6 months to see if they’re ‘ready’ to give you their credit card number? They may never be ready for your MLM business but they might be ready to buy an MLM product or a cool marketing product from you. (No and before you think of excuses you don’t need to make one yourself!)

Start reconnecting with ALL of the people you know inc. the dreaded friends and family and just ask them if you can pop them on your email list to stay in touch with them now and then so they can forward on the info to anyone they know who might find it helpful.

This is for you if you’ve got piles of old contacts that didn’t join your MLM – do you think they might buy an MLM product from you down the road if you were to stay in touch with them … AND

It’s ALSO for you newbies (I know you’re there) who think you have nothing to offer cause you’re not a ‘GURU.’ You don’t need to be a guru to build your own list.

From now on everyone you meet, instead of breaking out in a cold sweat about how you’re gonna ‘get em in’ your MLM, focus on how you can be in touch with them again.

Collect their card and or get their name to connect on Facebook. If they are business people ask them if you can add them to your mailing list so you can be in touch with them now.

You see how it works?

If you have an auto-responder (with 12 peeps in it!) get cracking. You can add them easily to a list of say ‘local business people’ or ‘family and friends’ and just drop them an informal email to let them know you will be sending them stuff that may help them or someone they know. (They can opt out if they don’t want to be on it but just ask them if it’s ok)

If you are truly doing this, by the end of the year you could have thousands of people on your list ranging from the local right through to peeps you meet on holiday or MLM trips.

Warning. If you don’t do this you are gambling. Will they join my MLM now or not? Yes = cool
No = complete waste of time and no relationship building and no long term safety net

Ok getting the idea? Even if you have no auto-responder (come on guys its $9 a month to build your security) you can still do this even with a card box or manual emails. Not my cup of tea but really there are no excuses for not being in touch with people over a long period of time.

Here’s my old card box from my first company when I was an MLM virgin and retail ninja. These guys are not in my email list! Gonna put that right though now.

Do what you know how to do today. Don’t make excuses. If you only have an empty card filebox like this then use it. That is the start of your ‘list,’ The golden nugget here is that you must make a way to stay in touch with these people even when they are not just current customers or prospects.

I made thousands and thousands of pounds with this box and you can do the same with your list even if you have no one on it yet. We all know people and you can start to add them not sell them!

Social networking has made it thousands of times easier to reconnect so start rebuilding your connections today. I’m gonna add all those people on these cards to a list and drop them a little email. If there’s no email I’ll be looking for them on Facebook or phoning them just to reconnect and ask if its ok to add them to my mailing list to stay in touch.

If you’ve been following my Blog for a while you’ll know that I have been pretty successful at using attraction marketing to draw people towards me in all kinds of cool ways.

I’ve built a great list of fabulous like minded people (like you) who read my Blogs and many of whom interact with me in the social media space.

Whilst others are really p_ssed off at people like Mike Dillard and Ann Sieg.

I don’t think anyone’s very cross with Mike Klingler cause he’s just too cute and has too much heart. He’s absolutely my favourite of the Attraction Marketing gurus, even though he’s turned off MLM.

In my 1.5 year attraction marketing journey I’ve always preached ‘in school,’ as opposed to old school or new school so I haven’t experienced any backlash from my followers, although I have had multiple heated debates with Randy Gage (my upline) who is trying ever so hard to keep us on the straight and narrow! Anyway I want to clear up a few things here for those of you that are confused and going cross eyed every night with your laptops trying to figure out what to do next!

Attraction Marketing certainly does work. It is what all successful people do in any business. They attract people to what they offer by giving VALUE.

My definition of Attraction Marketing is the art of giving value through whatever marketing methods you’re using AND

People finding your stuff and checking out what you have to offer of their own accord.

Now for the old school diehards who hate everything to do with this but who practice it authentically in their every action often without knowing, it is tricky cause they understand how hard this is to teach.

We want to keep things simple and duplicative don’t we?

Yes well I sure do. But I also want to use the internet so that I can prospect all over the world from my home in a tiny village in South East England.

So if you like the sound of this then it’s for you. If you prefer to work locally and hate spending time on your computer then it’s not!

I’m ok with that. You do what’s right for you.

Let’s do a quick Q and A on Attraction Marketing:

Q: Well Rachel does this mean I never have to speak to anyone about my MLM again.

A. Short Answer. NO! You need to work your little socks off and use both on and offline methods (hello remember the telephone?) to build a real network of real people. You must still exit your house and live your life!

Q. Can I work multiple MLMs with Attraction Marketing?

A. I think the chances of you being successful for long lasting passive income are close to zero. Sorry. I know it may look pretty and can work for SALES but not for MLM. Your guys won’t know what you’re promoting each day of the week so my best advice to you comes from the great Eric Worre of Network Marketing Pro ‘back one horse and stick with it.’ Or something like that!

Q. Does everyone need to be a super geek to use the internet to generate leads?

A. NO! All you need is some kind of simple capture page that collects prospects’ details in exchange for something VAUABLE.

Ok that’s it. There’s a ton of free info at this Blog about the fundamentals of generating leads online and turning them into subscribers and business partners.

Do me a favour and stop buying into all the hype. Take the best and leave the rest. Online is brilliant but it is just a METHOD for connecting with real people.

To build this business you need your MOUTH and keyboard to invite people to take a look, 3rd party tools (DVDs and websites) to make the presentation, and a phone, skype or your legs to follow up. It’s pretty simple when you think about it!

Today I’m excited to review Everyone Communicates, Few Connect by John C Maxwell. Maxwell has long been a favourite author of mine.

For those of you who are new to his work let me introduce you. Listen to my short video message explaining how you can win the book or read below:/p>

John Maxwell is the ‘go to guy,’ on leadership and in his latest book, ‘Everyone Communicates, Few Connect,’ he shares his 5 Connecting Principles and 5 Connecting Practices.

The first observation in the book that really hit me was, ‘Talk is cheap, everybody does it.’

Everyone is so busy talking but so many are NOT listening! Waiting for the other person to stop talking so we can jump in and say our piece, is a habit that we need to get control of to become successful in connecting with other people.

This is the key for prospecting and team building in MLM. If you spend most of your time with your prospect talking AT them, as so many do, by the end of your time together you may suddenly realise that you didn’t even manage to establish what their motivation for possibly joining your team would be!

I’ve done it and have certainly been guilty as charged. Have you?

Do you spend so much time talking about how great your company or team is that you forget to CONNECT with your prospect and find out what THEY really want?

John Maxwell’s book is not a heavy read but does give you nutritious food for thought. ‘Everyone Communicates, Few Connect,’ will take you through the basics, right through to the more advanced strategies of how to really connect with people.

A recurring theme in the book is the need to ‘add value’ to people. This is so relevant for marketing your Network Marketing or MLM business online with new technology.

You’ve probably heard many times in your marketing studies that you need to add value. By adding value you become more attractive to your prospects.

People will join your ‘list’ and more importantly stay in it IF and only IF you add value to their lives.

They are being pitched and sold all day long, every day. It can be very tiresome so the way to stand out from the crowd online (and off!) is to really focus on adding value.

This is even more critical for online marketing because you need to first attract your prospects’ attention in this busy internet highway!

Maxwell covers connecting one-on-one, in a group or with an audience so this book is valuable for all business building activities, and will teach you how to become a more effective networker.

I do read many books that are specialised Network Marketing books but I also recognise the immense value in studying with leaders in other fields.

You can pick up many fresh leadership ideas by reading others leaders’ work and applying it to your MLM business.

People are people at the end of the day, and it doesn’t matter what business you are in, you must learn to effectively influence them if you are to be successful.

John Maxwell has such a genuine voice that leaps of the page and easily engages you.

You can tell that he really cares about connecting, and one of the best tips I found in the book was, ‘the best advice I can give you is for you to learn how to be yourself.’

It’s worth taking a few moments to reflect on that one. It could be a major breakthrough for you.

Another golden nugget I found was: ‘Any message you try to convey must contain a piece of you.’ I took this to mean that your readers or listeners will know if you are not being authentic.

There are some great examples through the book so it is an interactive experience of reading, thinking and learning. Here are a few:

• What we say accounts for only 7 percent of what is believed.
• The way we say it accounts for 38 percent.
• What others see accounts for 55 percent.

Last post we covered time management for social media. This week let’s talk about time management for your MLM business.

With the Information Age come time management challenges like the world has never seen before!

Yes we all have our usual time management challenges such as managing our jobs and businesses.

You may be busy caring for your children and juggling lots of other commitments but on top of that we now have information coming at us through the internet cables at such a speed it makes your head spin.

This is the best thing. No that’s the best thing. And on it goes on; day after day.

Marketers (like me!) trying to get and keep your attention.

I’m going to be really straight with you and tell you what I think you need to do (and not to do!) to stay sane and moving forward with your MLM business in this crazy internet world!

Top Tips for Time Management for MLM

1) Do not sign up for everything! You will never read it all, follow it all and will probably end up confused and do nothing.

2) Pick one or two people that give great value in the area that you want to master (you might for instance receive my weekly ezines because you want to learn how to attract prospects to your online)

3) Study what your new mentors teach and start to IMPLEMENT the best strategies that can work for the MLM of your choice

4) Focus on what you CAN DO; not what you can’t do. Take baby steps but monitor yourself so you are moving forward with your to do lists everyday.

5) Make yourself a schedule everyday BEFORE you start work. Put specific times for beginning and ending activities. Then move on! Don’t waste time chit chatting on the internet and reading gossip and news.

6) Include 30 minutes- 1 hour of prospecting time for each day. This may be from your warm market list or for calling back your prospects that have come into your marketing funnel to request more info about your MLM. Don’t buy into this deluded idea that you can build an MLM business without picking up the phone!

7) Counsel with your upline. If your upline stinks go further upline! If there is no one who can support you there then you might want to ask yourself if you’re batting with the right team. You have two choices; become the upline or move to a team where you can get better coaching and leadership. It all works but do one or the other and don’t waste time moaning!

Create a 90 day plan. Your MLM business is built through creating momentum. This comes from CONSISTENCY. If you speak to 2 people this week (and I don’t care if you found them in Tesco’s or they came to you through your magical online funnel) it is not enough. You are playing the LOTTERY. 2 people a day bring freedom your way is the old cliché and it still rings true today. With online marketing you need more than that so that 2 people a day are actually looking at your MLM presentation.

9) Record your marketing and prospecting activity. Then you will know why you got the results you did when you review your business. 90 Day plan means head down and don’t keep stopping and questioning yourself. Just do it. 90 days of real consistent activity. 90 days will pass very quickly whether you do it or not so why not do it? My God it may even work! You might start signing people up that came to your through the internet (or wherever!) Imagine …

10) Turn off all distractions. Prospecting time means you are making outgoing calls to prospects. Do just that; don’t try to reply on skype and message on Facebook at the same time. Networking time is different to prospecting time. Control your time so you are proactive not reactive. If you are reactive all the time you will probably never get anything done except responding to other people’s needs.

Have you heard about the amazing continuity programs where you own your own membership site and earn money every month from each member that joins?

Nearly every service you pay for is a monthly continuity program. It’s called a Direct Debit in the UK!

The Gas, Telephone and Electric companies have one.

I pay a monthly membership for my girls to attend stage school.

If you go to the gym you probably have one.

A continuity program is any type of membership that offers a monthly product or service of some kind. It could be a monthly newsletter, or training videos such as Renegade Professional or Mike Dillard’s new ‘What’s Working Now.’ It’s a very sexy concept and if you’re ever tried to set up your own you’ll know it’s a TON of work. You need to set up and maintain the site and create quality unique content that people are willing to continue paying to receive every month.

In theory it sounds brilliant. Russell Brunson makes it sound SO easy! In reality it’s very challenging. What’s happened to a lot of internet marketers is that they’ve been slapped by the DSA ruling which has affected the credit card company regulations.

No more free trials and upgrades after 7 days etc. This means lots of people have had to completely re-design their sites to be compliant. Yawn.

Whilst the internet offers an amazing way to reach people and tons of opportunity It brings with it endless learning and adapting to stay on top of the latest thing.

Of course you could set up a continuity program with your own gym or gas company. Sound tempting? Not so much right! Doesn’t really fit in with the freedom and passive income lifestyle we’re all working towards in MLM.

So what has this got to do with MLM Rachel, I hear you say?

Well many of you, especially if you are inexperienced in MLM will not have realised that actually your MLM business probably offers you a ready made, plug and play continuity program.

You don’t need to design the sites, stay on top of the internet rules and regulations, make new quality content all the time. How is that?

Your product is your continuity program. This is why you need to join an MLM company that offers a sustainable and easy to manage Autoship program.

Every MLM promotes buying products every month, of course, or there is no long term business.

In some of the older companies there is no autoship program. There is usually a hefty monthly requirement to move a lot of products so that you can collect your royalty cheque. If you don’t move them you miss your royalty and bonus.

Newer companies such as Agel Enterprises have moved with the times and offer a low investment monthly autoship program so that you can instantly have access to your own continuity program.

All the admin and headaches are taken care of for you. The orders are automated online, the team member controls their own back office and the company takes care of delivery and product issues.

Those with no monthly culture of product usage start the business afresh every month. It’s exhausting. Those who have to retail huge amounts of product every month grind it out as they know there is no royalty cheque otherwise.

Well here I am at home trying to get some work done. With the kids and my husband off on holiday and my mother in law staying with us for 2 weeks it’s proving more challenging than one might think!

On the bright side I get to work late when our girls are in bed and to sleep later if I want. On the other side I have no routine and can be interrupted at any second!

It’s funny really because I hate routine that is imposed on me with a job but I love routine that I create myself.

If you’ve been working from home for any length of time you’ll know what I mean. Creating routine supports you and enables you to reach your goals. Without it your business is dead or at best pretty flat and unpredictable.

So how do we get through 3 weeks of Easter holidays with family all round us morning, noon and night?

Here’s my 10 Tips for you and they’ll be quick cause I have no time! The girls want me to go out with them and what’s the point of having the flexibility of working from home if you can’t enjoy it?

Tip 1

Set your goals. If you’re serious with your business you must have a 90 day action plan. If you want lasting results at the end of 90 days you can’t take 3 weeks off. (Sorry!) Later on when you have a strong residual cheque you can do some of that but if you are in early stages you must work your business consistently. Goals such as your next rank advancement keep you focussed on the prize.

Tip 2

Commit to 60 minutes a day of real business activity. This does not mean answering emails, posting your link on Facebook or sitting in webinars. This is real ‘rainmaker’ activities such as inviting people to review your business, interviewing prospects, sending out information and following up. Best times for this are in the evening anyway.

Tip 3

Schedule in personal rewards. When you complete your activities such as 60 minutes per day real business building activities reward yourself. It might be something as simple as a coffee in town or a new personal development book. It needs to motivate you but also to keep you on track.

Tip 4

Reward your family. My kids love it when I do well because they know they will be rewarded too. If they stay quiet and let me get on with my work when I explain to them that I need to, I make it worth their while and reward them this week! Lasting riches and residual income are great but kids like to see results now. They will support you much more when they get little rewards.

Tip 5

Make some days just for fun. If you are for instance going on a day trip to London then BE THERE. Don’t try and phone prospects at the same time! Make up your 60 minutes the next day by doubling your hour of business activity.

Tip 6

Get organised. You must use a planner or diary. I like online tools to schedule my activities and follow up calls. Use whatever works for you but you’re in business so never forget to follow up just because it is ‘inconvenient.’ Someone else may follow up with your prospect!

Tip 7

Are you in business? Have you explained to your kids and your partner what and why you are in your business? It helps for them to understand. Just because you work at home doesn’t mean you never work! Get clear on your family goals.

Tip 8

Get a cleaner. Even if the cleaner doesn’t come in during the holidays because it would be pointless (as in my case!) You can have your house clean and organised before the holidays so you only need to do minimal chores and can spend your time either building your business or being with your family. Hoovering does not pay well! If you were working in your boss’s office you would not spend your time doing dishes and hoovering. Why do that in your own business?

Tip 9

Take action – Don’t procrastinate. If you need to make calls, or do some online marketing or whatever it is make sure you do it first. Eat that Frog, as Brian Tracy says in his Time Management book. (Great book!) Even if you do one important task every day you will be so much further than most that spend their time on the small stuff and procrastinate about the big tasks that can make a real difference. Work your ‘to do list!’

Tip 10

Outsource everything you can. Get your kids or partner doing some jobs at home or even assisting you with your admin tasks. Family members like to be involved when you have a common goal. Take turns with a friend to take both lots of kids to the park. That way you both get some quiet time.

If you started your business to achieve time and financial freedom you can never achieve it unless you use systems, tools and leverage your time so you are not doing EVERYTHING. Housewives and husbands become successful in home based businesses when they stop spending all their time doing the $10 per hour activities that most other ‘housepeople’ do! How can you build a 6 figure business watching t.v and ironing?

Ok I’m out of time. My 30 minutes stop watch is flashing and I’m on to the next thing. It may not be the most perfect article I ever wrote but it will do the job and guess what? I did it!

p.s If you are up to your ears in noisy kids get up early to do your ‘quiet tasks,’ and use the evening hours when your kids are in bed or settling down to do your calls. Good luck!

Here’s step 1 and step 2 in case you want to catch up.

I have tried every which way of talking to and enrolling people into my MLM. I’ve been in 2 global MLM companies and have used pretty much every method or system you could possibly think of.

Before I joined ‘MLM’ I dabbled with direct selling businesses and party plans to so it’s fair to say I’ve done A LOT of ’scary’ stuff!

The best way I have found to get results and to train and duplicate with your team is to have scripts for you to follow.

When I joined my first MLM I was selling £150+ ($250) weight loss programs with just a phone script on the first call. I also signed up lots of prospects for the business at the £199 level and then upgraded them to £2700 or $4000. ‘Gulp,’ you say. ‘Wow I thought it was tough enough getting someone to enrol at the $1000 level!’

Yep and it can be but it’s all the same really. If you have a good funnel, drive leads into it and have a step by step system for enrolling people I don’t think the price is really an issue.

So step 3 is about getting organized so you and your team know EXACTLY what you are going to say on each and every call with your prospects.

Figure out a script that works with your MLM team funnel. The first one we use is an ‘interview process,’ where we find out more about the prospect and discover whether we are likely to be a match.

You can use something created by your upline leaders – they don’t have to know anything about online marketing to do this of course. This is the real meat of the MLM business that you want to be sharing at this point.

Use the tools to do the presenting and you focus on INTERVIEWING and LISTENING to your prospects.

After they’ve watched the video you’ll need a sign up script to follow. You can do this on a 3 way call with your team members to assist them to enrol their prospects and to welcome the new members to the team.

Top Tip

Introduce your new team members to your upline mentor ASAP. This reduces the ‘buyer’s remorse’ or cold feet your prospects may sometimes suffer from when they have made a quick decision due to your effective phone scripts.
