Customising your Facebook Fan Page

Ok this week I’ve been battling with Facebook business aka fan pages! Since they changed the layout some time ago I admit I had not the stamina to figure out how to optimise my page but the time had come. It was on my list and I decided that Facebook would not beat me this time! If you’ve ever tried to figure out or find a feature on Facebook that is a little bit unusual you’ll know what I mean. These guys don’t make it easy – it’s as if they want to reward those who go in for battle and manage to overcome the FB challenge! I’ve written an article for you & made a quick video below with the best easy to use apps (once you know what they are!) to optimise your Facebook page so you can build your list directly from your Facebook business page.

Ok first of all if you haven’t got a business or fan page why not? You need one to build your niche expert presence. It’s free and it’s powerful. When someone likes your page all their friends see it in the newsfeed so it is easy to go viral with a business page.

Go get one now if you haven’t got one yet. Just look for the link that says ‘create a page,’ – it’s usually right at the bottom of the page.

I had a couple of issues as follows:

1) Since Facebook changed the format my sign up form was no longer working on my page.

2) I could upload videos but couldn’t find them once they were there. There was no link for easy navigation for my visitors to watch them

3) My blog was no longer connecting and I wanted to add an RSS feed for new posts to be displayed.

Here’s what I found: The involver app which you can find by just googling involver apps. They have quite a few apps but to use more than a couple you need to pay and it’s quite pricey. The app I love involver for is the YouTube app. Just install it with the click of a button by connecting it up with your business or fan page. Follow the easy instructions and voila you will have a lovely link on the sidebar of your page for your fans to click through and watch your videos. No videos yet? Well that’s a topic for another training piece!

Next big issue I tackled was the html form so I can customise the page for when new people visit and they have the option to sign up to my list and/or like my page.

There is a gaping whole in your social media funnel if you are developing your fan page but not capturing people’s details with a free offer. Really it’s a sin!

Anyway involver also have an app for this but I just couldn’t get it to work. I have the patience of a flee so maybe you’ll have better luck but I then found the glorious tradable bits app which satisfied all my needs and get this – is completely free!

So I installed the html app by just following their simple 3 minute video instructions.

Then I slapped some html code from aweber for my free giveaway form and added a video for good measure.

Start where you are now. Get a simple form up there with some compelling wording for people to sign up to your list and you can get fancier with your customisation as you go along.

Finally I added the RSS feed with a click of the button using the tradable bits app so that my blog is easy to find and view for all my visitors. Granted it isn’t as fancy as the networked blogs app which I have been using for years but some reason that doesn’t seem to be working on my page so this is a back up. I didn’t get chance to show you the rss feed on the video but it’s really simple and you’ll see it when you add the html app.
