Here are the first 5 ways I shared in a previous post on to beat the blues: Home Business Blues Busters
And here are 5 more to drive the blues away (or better still prevent them coming in the first place)
6) Don’t beat yourself up. Replace the beating yourself up with taking consistent daily action. No good comes from comparing yourself to others so focus on your own game. If you keep taking action daily and improving your skills you will get better. You’ll be on an unavoidable path to success! It’s so important to have a written 90 day plan and daily method of operation so that no matter how you feel you know exactly what to do and can just get on with it whatever your mood.
7) Help someone else. This may be someone in your team, your family or a friend. Help someone else to achieve something or just do something good for someone and I promise you’ll feel better because you take the focus from yourself. I find giving to charity makes me feel really good or even giving some of your precious time to someone can give you both a huge feel good boost.
Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep can really weaken your ability to focus and to take the action you need to take. Do something restful before you go to sleep such as read your favourite book, write in your journal or meditate so that your mind is quiet.
T.V and internet aren’t usually very soothing as they can stimulate your imagination and prevent you sleeping well. I’ve also heard that we get a better night’s sleep when we’re not surrounded by electrical equipment. That being said I sometimes watch a funny comedy late at night with my daughter and find we both go to bed relaxed and in good humour. Either way give yourself some ‘you time’ before bed.
9) Clear the clutter or create a vacuum of prosperity. When you feel overwhelmed relief can come by simply clearing the clutter in your office and at home. Every time I do, this good stuff comes back to me.
When I clear my wardrobe and give some bags of clothes to charity and maybe throw some old clutter away amazing things happen. One time I immediately won £50 of Marks & Spencer vouchers and went to buy new clothes with them.
By creating a vacuum both physically and mentally you allow space for the new to enter your life. I always feel much more in control when my desk is clear and my house is in order. I think this is especially true for women but I’m sure clearing the clutter will benefit men too.
10) If it all gets too much just walk away and give yourself a few hours off or take a day out and just do other things that make you feel good. My favourite emergency blues busters are listening to Jim Rohn’s, audio programme, ‘The Day that Turned Your Life Around.’ It always does it for me so find your favourite inspirational audio too. I play mine when I cook as I’m not great at sitting still!
Audios for the car work great too and you could drive somewhere beautiful and just take in the scenery. Whatever it is for you just find what works and when it all gets too much take a break and do it.
I hope that’s helped you think of some strategies to support yourself when you’re feeling a little down and need to beat the blues. It’s always easier to prevent yourself getting into that state by putting in your own support systems but when all else fails just remember that tomorrow is a new day.
