Ok well if you’ve been working online for any length of time I think you may agree with me that it is complete MADNESS ‘out there!’
So many people are pitching and spamming. No one is listening to them but they don’t care anyway.. they think they are doing their daily activity.
They don’t know any better.
I know you don’t want to fall into that category so listen up and let’s make sure you have a good solid understanding of how to generate leads online with networking and social media.
We can call them leads, prospects or whatever you want but the bottom line is getting someone to click through on your website, enter their details so that you can then contact them.
So what do you need in place?
Well as I’ve been saying over and over and over for a couple of years now; you MUST have your ‘funnel’ or marketing system in place BEFORE you try to generate leads.
Otherwise it can be a big waste of time and you’ll feel like you are getting nowhere. You don’t want to feel like that right? It’s so yuck when you do.
I know cause I felt like that before I figured out this simple process.
So what do you do then?
A) Get your funnel in place. If you’re in Network Marketing this can be a compelling company or team website.. This tool should replace the need for you to be presenting.
If you are a small business owner, professional services, author, coach or other entrepreneur then you need a branded marketing funnel in place FIRST.
You can start simple and build it up – usually with a WordPress.org blog, simple capture box and then build your funnel out from there with your products and services. Go here if you want more info on how to do that: Create Your Marketing Funnel
If you network online and don’t have a marketing hub that can CAPTURE your target audience’s details I really think you must be MAD! You’re not mad are you?
B) Give value through your content. If you are in Network or Affiliate Marketing and want to keep it simple then your content can be Tweets & Facebook Posts. You don’t need everything to be perfect. You can just start small and build up with your networking skills and confidence.
Please note: by giving value I don’t mean pasting people’s walls with your opportunity link, no matter how valuable you perceive your opportunity to be. This goes for everyone working online. That is spamming not marketing.
C) Create conversations online. You can see it going on all the time right? Study people who know how to do this well. Follow conversations on Facebook and Twitter. Watch, learn and start to participate.
D) Attract people to your profile and they may click on your link and become a lead or prospect in your system. Talk about things that will be of interest to the people you want to attract. If you want to network with people who might buy your book about real estate then of course you will want to give out valuable tips about real estate. You have your link on your profile where your target audience can click and learn more about what you offer.
Once you have people coming through your funnel it becomes much easier. Then you just need to connect with them. How you do that will depend on what your business model is. It might be through email or if you’re building a network it will more likely be by calling them to introduce yourself, and see how you can help.
A few final tips and words of warning. Social media can eat up your time if you let yourself get distracted with Farmville and other nonsense.
It is important you be ‘SOCIAL’ in social media but that means being true to your values and talking about positive stuff.
If you play around you’ll attract people who play around …
If you swear and talk negative that’s what you’ll attract …
If you engage in Mafia Wars … well you get the picture.
This isn’t even WOO WOO stuff. It’s just clear that you will attract the wrong target audience.
Remember your profiles may be seen by anyone at any time so only write there what you wouldn’t mind your parents, your children or your best prospect to see.
Social media opens up the whole world for you to build a global or local business. Whatever suits you; have fun with it and learn the skills to be a value giving networker and you’ll never run out of people to talk to online.
