How to Start Your Own Business With No Money

I can’t believe it’s the holiday season again already and Christmas is just around the corner. Christmas brings mixed emotions. For those with lots of money to spend it’s a wonderful time but it can be a very stressful month for those who are struggling financially.

There is so much pressure to buy presents for everyone and I remember all too well that sinking feeling in my stomach when I didn’t have the money I needed to buy the gifts that my kids wanted.

It’s easy to give in to the pressure and use credit cards for luxuries when really we shouldn’t. The credit card companies make it oh so easy to do so. I’m constantly amazed at the wording of the offers they send me. It’s almost as if they want us to believe they are giving us free money!

Fortunately after running my own business for over 7 years and starting it completely with credit cards I’ve learned how to play the credit card game and now I enjoy excellent credit. I’ve certainly paid the price for it though!

So for those who are still juggling lots of credit cards, take heart. There is a benefit to that as long as you are disciplined in paying them off methodically, and switching for better deals instead of just letting them charge you sky high interest rates.

Many people think that they can’t start a business if they don’t have money, or they don’t have a lot of contacts, or they don’t have whatever else they come up with.

The truth is that actually what they don’t have is creativity. If you’re determined to change your situation and find your way to work from home and be free there are no excuses because ANYONE can do that.
So this Christmas don’t use your credit cards for ‘doodads,’ as Robert Kiyosaki calls luxury items that don’t bring you any return on investment.

There are plenty of fabulous toys and gifts for family members that don’t need to be the most expensive or the latest brand name.

If you’ve just started out in your business or you’re thinking of starting your own business then don’t confuse the two types of spending.
Using your credit, credit cards or whatever you need to do to start a business is in the name of ‘good debt.’ (As long as you have a good business plan)

It is an investment in yours and your family’s future.

Buying Wii Nintendo’s, as lovely as it is, cannot be classed as good debt. This is most definitely bad debt so to keep your sweet ones happy, establish a budget BEFORE you go shopping and don’t risk getting sucked into that irresistible holiday hype.

Don’t be afraid to have the conversation with your kids about what you are doing. Our kids are now 12 and 14 but I started my first home business when they were 4 and 6. We had just moved from Israel to the UK and we were all alone.

We had no house, no car and no furniture. Neither of us had a job or a lot of money.

I had no friends in the area (poor me) In fact I didn’t really have friends in the country because I didn’t grow up in the UK, I grew up in Jersey where my new business didn’t even operate.

So this would be more than enough valid reasons (excuses) for me to say, ‘oh I can’t start that business now.’

‘I don’t know anyone…’

But I didn’t do that because I didn’t want to live a life that revolves around lack of money. I made a decision that I would find a way to become financially independent so that we would never have to go through that again.

It is worth the short term pain; maybe you buy smaller gifts rather than a Wii this year.

It’s amazing how kids understand if you will just give them the chance. Even adults understand at a push. (lol)

Our girls are so wise beyond their years. They understand the teachings of Jim Rohn and they don’t even think for one moment that when they are older they will just follow the herd.

This is a gift you can give them which is far more powerful than any Wii. My kids are getting the Wii this year but I’m proud to say it was paid for with cash, not credit card debt that would make my stomach churn.

So when someone says ‘they can’t afford to start the business,’ or ‘they can’t afford to enrol in your coaching program,’ or ‘they can’t afford to attend a life changing event,’ remember to ask them how many doodads and Wii’s they’ve splurged on this year.

Another cracking post Rachel. As someone who’s had serious credit card debt in the past I can relate to the ‘free money’ offers you mention. If your readers take it on board it could save them a lot of heartache (and cash).
