I’ve been thinking about this recently as it’s such a challenging area in which to coach people. When I first got into Network Marketing I was blessed to work with a company that has Jim Rohn as their official personal development coach and he often speaks at their live events.
My husband and I went to Paris (like obedient new distributors!) and Jim Rohn was speaking at our very first major event. When I look back I realise how fortunate we were.
I enjoyed his philosophical approach to business so much that I quickly bought many of his cds and books. I’ve spent hours and hours listening to him, in the car and in the kitchen whilst cooking, and really he has made a huge difference to how I see things so I will always be grateful to Mr. Jim Rohn.
I think Jim has certainly helped to keep me in the industry on many occasions and I’ve only met him briefly a couple of times. That just shows you how powerful listening to someone’s positive message can be.
One of the key things that he talks of is about motivation and he says something like this and I paraphrase: ‘what do you do if someone doesn’t arrive to switch you on that day?’
The point being that many people are motivated by external factors such as attending major events (wow we get excited when we do that!) but it can quickly wear off right, and you’re back down to earth with a bump….
What we need as Network Marketers, ‘fighting the forces of evil’ on a daily basis, as Randy Gage often says, is a way to motivate ourselves and to stay self-motivated.
I love the big events and all the bells and whistles that go with them but it’s the little things in the middle that can often make a big difference to keeping me on track.
It’s easy to attend big events and get excited. It’s the action we take every day, as a result, that builds our business.
How is it for you? What do you do to stay motivated in-between major events and when your child has a cold, your phone bill needs paying and you are spending more than you are making?
Those are the times when we really need to be super self motivated because if we are not guess what happens? Yes you got it. That’s when lovely distributors fall by the way side and ‘put it on a back burner.’ It’s just too sad.
So, on a happier note here are some tips for you that have made a huge difference to my well being and my daily production over the years. These are things that have helped me at different times and of course there is not ‘one right way.’ Whatever keeps us smiling and moving forward is the right way for each of us.
- Visit the bookstore or library regularly and start reading inspirational books on a daily basis. Each morning is great but if you have a rushed schedule in the morning then before sleeping can work well too. Now my kids are older I am able to really enjoy the morning routine in a relaxed way but for years I used to have to rush them to school etc. and unless I woke up very early it just wasn’t going to work so I used to just read a page or two of something positive to get me on the right track in the morning. (A page of affirmations can work well for a quick morning fix!)
- Listen to audio. If you struggle with reading then use audio. Turn your car or journey into work on the train, into a classroom. Many people don’t associate a classroom with fun! Try to change that and associate your learning with success and prosperity. By listening to inspiring audios I have found myself lifted out of depression and into a more positive mood almost instantly.
Super Blues Buster! If you’re really down and just ‘had it with everything,’ then you may be completely fed up of reading or listening to personal development and that happens to me occasionally. Here are 10 things to choose from that may help get you out of that miserable place in your head very quickly:
1) Go for a walk somewhere pretty and if it’s nice weather take a picnic
2) Give someone you love a huge hug, take the day off and refuse to think about all your troubles. Just enjoy being alive and grateful for what you already have.
3) Take a bath and light some scented candles, and if you don’t have alcohol issues then have a glass of your favourite wine!
4) Read a novel. Whatever floats your boat. Indulge in a fast paced thriller or a romantic novel. If you enjoy reading, a book can be the fastest way to go to another place! The key to this is reading something that doesn’t make you think. It’s just a brief interlude of pure escapism.
5) Take your kids or animals or someone you love out for the day. Resist talking about your business. My girls know almost as much about Network Marketing as me! They’ve been in the programme from ages 4 and 6 but sometimes it’s nice for all concerned to talk about something else for a change. (As they often tell me!)
6) Go to the gym, or for a bike ride, or stick a groovy exercise DVD on and get to it. Exercise is great for changing your mood. I don’t love exercise but am always happy after I have done it!
7) Practice the ‘Vacuum Law of Prosperity,’ and clear out all your junk. Put clothes you don’t wear into charity bags and pass them on. Clear out all the stuff you don’t need or want in your life and make room for the new good stuff to come in. This really helps manifest good stuff.
Meditate. Okay it’s not for everyone but it’s brilliant for some. I like to meditate along with a CD because I’m not good at being quiet and still!
9) Phone your mentor. Please don’t puke all over them or they may need to use the Super Blues Booster list after your call! Mentors are programmed to be positive with you even if they feel awful themselves and if you have a good one they can usually really help you to get back on track and feel good about yourself. Sometimes all they do is listen and that is a real gift.
10) Watch Bridget Jones’s Diary. (Okay watch whatever you want but choose something FUNNY so you laugh your little cotton socks off. Laughter is an amazing way to change your state.
On a final note as Jan Ruhe likes to say, ‘It’s always too soon to quit.’ Find what works for you and make it your mission to keep yourself in the game long enough to win big!
p.s Renegade University is about to re-open and stay open so if you’re keen to get your own online cash machine and online real estate established look out for a message from me any day now that will let you know when you can upgrade to professional level to access the click by click tutorials.

These are really great points. I believe it is very important to try to do some of these things on a regular basis so they become habits. Then when a black cloud starts to appear we can quickly move into a positive mode and eliminate being drawn into a downward spiral of stress and doubt. A couple of other things that work for me when these times come, which they always do, is to focus on the successes I have had and to continually remember to find things in life for which to be grateful. You have done a great job here in pointing out some of the very most important things that will get us where we want to go in life.
