Social Book marking and Getting More Traffic to your Websites

Social bookmarking is a great way to build a supportive social network online and can also bring you floods of traffic to your bookmarked pieces of content.

Recently I bookmarked one of my videos at the popular bookmaking site, Digg, and it generated 17 business leads for me in 1 day!

It takes a couple of seconds to book mark your content and a couple of minutes a day to ‘socialise’ on one or two sites.

This type of social book marking is overlooked and misunderstood by many otherwise quite savvy online marketers.

There is a temptation for many to use automatic software such as ‘socialmatic.com’ to ping their content to tons of social sites at the same time. Beware of doing this because the search engines don’t like it and may penalise you for it.

Anything artificial with the search engines is generally seen as spamming. I have understood through my internet marketing studies that it is much better practice to frequently visit a couple of sites with ‘Do Follow’ Links (more about that in a future post!) such as Digg and Stumbleupon, and build up a real account there.

The search engines notice who acts like a real person, i.e. social bookmarking is sociable by its very nature! If you only bookmark your own content you will not reap the rewards of more traffic to your site. (It’s like going to a party and talking about yourself all night.. oh yes..YAWN)

How to get started with Social Bookmarking? (‘or social book marketing!’)

Set up your account at Digg or Stumbleupon (there is a special toolbar you can download for the latter so that you can easily navigate the site)

Set up your profile with photo and by filling in your personal information so you are a sociable and ‘normal’ member of the community. (Network Marketers make an effort to be ‘normal’ please!

Start to bookmark other people’s content that you like the look of. It can be quite addictive because when you start to ‘Stumble’ through the sites of subjects that you enjoy you will find some really good stuff!

Build up a list of friends and comment on, review or submit new sites other than your own. This way you will have a record with the search engines of contributing and will be able to bookmark your own content and get traffic to it.

I recommend you only bookmark your best stuff as your friends will have limited time to review it. You also want a profile that shows your best work to build up your credibility as a professional marketer.

Final Top Tips for Social Bookmarking

1. A little regularly is better than a ton every now and then. Establish a pattern of regular visits and interaction with book marking other content.

2. Visit other sites in areas of interest that show you have other hobbies other than just submitting things to do with Network Marketing.

3. Favourite your best content on Digg so others can see it easily.

4. Favourite your downlines’ best content also to help bring them traffic to their sites.

5. Take time to learn how it all works. It’s not at all complicated but you may have beginner hiccups with downloading the Stumbleupon Toolbar or submitting your first ‘Digg.’ (It’s OK. Deep breath and relax)

6. If you are in need of more specialised help with social marketing and want to have click by click hand holding check out Renegade University. Social book marking along with 100 other internet network marketing tutorials are available for you to become as skilled as you wish.

7. Remember all online marketing when done correctly for long term credibility will take some time but your efforts will pay you dividends forever. Your account starts to build up and get some roots so stick with it.

Hope that helps with your book marking! Free targeted traffic to your website or blog is your reward for being consistent.
