This week I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to not go for the big things you want.
Fear can stop you in your tracks and before you know it you’re doing a u-turn and heading away from what you planned to do!
I see this happening with business owners all the time. They go to a big event, get started with a course or get inspired by a coach to take a big leap.
But then they wake up one morning paralysed by the thought of taking the action they need to take to follow through.
Fear kicks in and when that happens it takes over… if you let it.
So today is just a little message for you to be conscious of your fear limiting you in what you want to do.
Once you are conscious of this happening your fear gradually diminishes.
You recognise it happening and you think, ‘oh ok – here it is again trying to stop me doing what I said I would do.’
So now you know.
After all these years of moving through a lot of fear I’ve still not completely overcome my issues.
I probably never will as there is always something new to be fearful of.
Writing my book, Confidence in High Heels, unstoppable confidence for women, really helped me realise just how far I’ve come.
That’s what growing and personal development is all about.
You hit one goal and overcome one fear and then oops another one pops up to take your breath away.
What you can take solace from is the fact that once you have moved forward on your goals despite the fear, you then begin to believe you can handle it.
So you do it once and then you do it again.
And again.
You just keep moving through your fears until you start to have so much faith in yourself and the process that even when you’re fearful, the voice in your head switches to a positive one and says, ‘oh – so I did it before and now I will do it again.’
Take a deep breath and move through it.
The biggest tragedy is when people with so much to give, give up on their dreams instead.
They give into fear and decide to keep playing small because it’s safe.
Playing big takes courage. You have to be brave.
For some, speaking on a webinar or giving a presentation on stage isn’t scary at all.
For others it may be terrifying.
The question is what do you do with that fear?
If you know that speaking on that webinar or stage is going to move your business forward then you must find a way to move yourself through your fear.
And I promise you that it won’t be quite so scary the next time.
Keep on facing your fears because that is where the growth and the magic happen.
I can do things today that I would have been terrified at the mere thought of doing eight years ago.
I decided because of situations I’d experienced that I couldn’t do certain things.
But then things changed, I started my own business and I had no choice but to overcome the excuses I’d carefully constructed for myself.
It was that or give up.
And giving up is not an option.
So find a way through, find a way round or just face your fears head on because when you do you enter the victory zone.
Be brave, gather your courage and be ready to amaze yourself.
