Here are some photos I took during my last trip to Jerusalem several years ago. I dug them out when I was researching and writing The Covenant and thought my readers would enjoy a glimpse of the book’s setting in present-day Jerusalem.
The main photo above is the historic Zion Gate which Cara enters on her way to the Jewish Quarter.
Below on the left is the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall. It’s the only remaining wall of the Jewish Second Temple which was destroyed by the Romans in the first century. (70 CE)
The Jewish Quarter is… well the Jewish Quarter, which was rebuilt after being destroyed and is the neighbourhood near the Western Wall. It is the home of the (mythical) Jewish Mystical Society which features heavily in the present day timeline. The neighbourhood also features in the Judean timeline and was near the Temple. I learnt that in those days, the Jerusalem neighbourhoods were called Lower and Upper City. The poorer Jews lived in Lower City, and the grandees, priests and aristocrats lived in Upper City.
In The Covenant you’ll meet the past versions of Twin Flames: Cara and George Cavendish, and discover which neighbourhood they lived in and who they were two thousand years ago!
The other photos are the stunning Judean Hills and a sunset view from the Jewish Quarter in the Old City as it is today.
I hope you enjoy this glimpse into behind the scenes of my latest novel. It will be out this summer and you can read the full blurb and pre-order on kindle here: The Covenant
